A new study says the majority of American adults still prefer voice calls over text messages on their mobile devices. Pew Research Center says its new survey shows 53% of American adults preferring a voice call over a text message. 31% said they prefer text, and 14% said their preference depends on the situation.
No surprise that young adults are the heavy text users, a whopping 109.5 messages a day!
However, daily use of mobile devices for either texting or voice calling is not increasing. Pew found usage levels to be about the same as last year's (although a good bit higher than 2009).
The study didn't specifically address the use of texts or voice calls for emergency situations. Still, no doubt about it, if you're going to try to reach people on their mobile devices during an emergency (and you should), you'd best be prepared to reach them both via text and voice.
All the best,
Rick
