However, what I've found is that companies may have a plan, but people don't know what is in it. The "Exercises" for some companies are not true tests of people, systems and the plan.
Also, I'm guessing that AT&T is working with the technology people in companies. Yes, we are very technology dependent, but the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) must go way beyond the IT function to incorporate the entire enterprise-wide readiness for disasters.
They also specifically mention readiness for "floods and winter storms" which are more of the garden variety of disasters, as opposed to earthquakes, terrorism, and others where the impact is much more wide spread and significant.
The good point is that it is even a story! Many times the topic of disaster readiness is flying below the radar screen until there is an event, and in this story that isn't the case.
