Federal Government: Worst Place to Work
December 17, 2012

I've thought about writing about the Department of Homeland Security for a long time.  There is the old adage, "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all."  So, I've kept my fingers off the keyboard for a long time.

Instead of me saying anything, I'll let the people who should know speak up.  See Best Places to Work in the Federal Government: 2012 Rankings  These are done by the employees in the agency itself, so...they should know, right?

You can start at the top with NASA and go to the bottom...with the Department of Homeland Security.  If you drill into the numbers and feedback a bit you will see that "senior leadership" never gets out of the 40 something percentile.

Now I'm thinking that the "senior leadership" at DHS has all sorts of justifications for their ranking when compared to other agencies.  But, really--even the U.S. Army has a higher rating and their workforce has been shot at for ten years now.

I hear Janet Napolitano being mentioned as a potential candidate for other senior level positions in the new second term administration.  I wish her well and hope she "gets a different job" somewhere away from DHS.  If you were to list her accomplishments as the DHS Secretary they would include:

And, don't forget (?)
