Being an emergency manager can be a lonely mission. You and your program are not importantâ"until it is important. You slog along, day in and day out trying to improve your program. This includes fighting for mitigation, trying to get people to come to training, cajoling your elected officials to participate in an exerciseâ"the list goes on.
The hope I hold out for you is that you will be vindicatedâ"eventually. Perhaps not during your tenure in your current position, but people will look back and say, ""____ was right! All that planning we did paid off in this event." You will be vindicated in the end. It may be a long time coming, just because it "rides a slow horse."
