I read in the Puget Sound Business Journal about how a Spanish language radio station was changing its name and format. Segmenting it to be more specific to the Michoacan and Jalisco Mexican States, which is where the majority of Mexican Americans are from here in the Pacific Northwest.

Which brought to mind how we have one flavor of public education for everyone in our communities. I think we need to look to diversify how we do our public education, not only by language, but more specifically to various ethnic groups.

Yes, "how" and with what resources is always the question. But the work needs to be done. I think it may have to start with having a more diverse workforce in emergency management so that we can better understand and relate to other cultures.
