Washington State DOT Use of Technology

Bookmark and Share

I don't always think of my state as being "cutting edge" but Washington State is known for their use of technology. See how they are implementing a new alert and warning system for the Department of Transportation and note "they are using Twitter!"

WSDOT has employed a new e-mail subscription system to help manage the more than 70 independent e-mail distribution lists currently in operation. GovDelivery is the world's leading provider of government-to-citizen communication solutions and provides a fully-automated, on-demand public communication system.

GovDelivery benefits:
Single sign on - provides one stop shopping for WSDOT e-mail alerts. Only sign up once and you can choose to receive e-mail or text messages from any WSDOT program.

Mobile support - GovDelivery is designed to meet the requirements of the different wireless carriers by formatting short text messages specifically for mobile devices.

Web updates generate automatic e-mail updates - receive automatic e-mail alerts/updates with links to new information as soon as it is posted on WSDOT's website.

As a subscriber to the WSDOT Freight News Alerts, you have already been added to the GovDelivery service. With the added benefits of GovDelivery, you can choose to receive other e-mail alerts from WSDOT programs that interest you. To update your subscriptions, modify your password or e-mail address, or stop subscriptions at any time, log on to the Subscriber Preferences Page .

WSDOT news and traffic information is also available via Twitter. If you would like to receive up to the minute updates via Twitter, sign up here .
