A Tool to Sort Through the Social Media Blizzard

Kim Stephens in one of her blog posts pointed towards a new social media tool called Signal.  See Signal social media monitoring tool provides vital “eyes and ears” in the interests of public safety and crime prevention

This is a law enforcement example, but the issues are the same for all of us.  Scanning information and finding the nuggets that we need to be more effective.  It is all about gaining and maintaining situational awareness so that we have a Common Operating Picture (COP) that we can share with others.

Secondarily, it allows us to know what people are saying and to create a dialog with the Crowd.  I can't say that the tool highlighted above is the best product on the market, but it points the way to other solutions that I'm sure are out there or being developed now for business and that can be easily adapted for emergency management use.

And, less I forget--Happy New Year!
