Expiring TWIC Cards
November 27, 2012

As we wait for the Final Rule for the implementation of biometric readers and the processes for using them we also need to deal with the fact that those people who early on obtained a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) now have them reaching their five year shelf life and expiring.

U.S. Coast Guard, Sector Houston-Galveston has issued a nice one page summary of how to deal with expiring TWIC cards.

See Expiring Transportation Worker Identification Credentials which provides guidance on what to do when a
card has expired and how a receipt can be used as a temporary replacement when waiting for your new card to
arrive.

Lastly, as is pointed out in the document above. Don't renew too soon. It puts more pressure on the system and
in reality you are not getting the full value for your money when you renew early.
