Welcome to the Disasters 2.0 Blog! Social media has quickly become one of the most impactful systems on emergency management. Elements of preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation can be positively or negatively impacted by tools such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube depending on who is using them and in what fashion. There are also many misconceptions about when, where and how social media tools work.

Therefore, it is critical for emergency management professionals to apply social media in practical and manageable ways for their respective organizations. That is the purpose of this blog — to bring forward a variety of examples ranging from practical implementation of social media to critical observations from real-life scenarios.

Check in to the Disasters 2.0 Blog often and help me create an online community to discuss and engage with emergency managers throughout the world! If you have any questions or would like to share interesting social media stories, please send Adam [adamscrowe@yahoo.com] an email.
