The Community Foundation accepts grant requests year-round. Refer to the foundation's website for specific deadlines. Upcoming deadlines for concept letters for the Community Grantmaking Fund and Clarke Endowment Funds are 3:00 p.m. on October 14, 2009, January 12, 2010, and April 13, 2010. Applications will be invited from those selected based on the concept letters received, due at 3:00 p.m. on December 1, 2009, March 2, 2010, and June 1, 2010, respectively .

Summary

The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne is the realization of the vision of leaders three-quarters of a century ago. Many donors have helped the Community Foundation grow to become a major philanthropic asset in the community. Its mission is to build public giving partnerships that effectively connect donors with nonprofit organizations and community projects to produce a brighter future for all people in Allen County. The Community Foundation ensures that effective grants that meet donors' charitable interests and address the community's changing needs. Foundation grants are made through the following funds: (1) Community Grantmaking Fund and Clarke Endowment Funds; (2) Field of Interest and Donor Advised Funds; (3) Other funds that do not accept unsolicited requests. Each of these funds has its own submission requirements, funding priorities and restrictions. Preference is give to funding requests that: (1) address priority community concerns; (2) encourage more effective use of community resources; (3) test or demonstrate new approaches and techniques in the solution of community problems; (4) are intended to strengthen the management capabilities of agencies; and (5) promote volunteer participation. The foundation encourages requests that increase cooperation among agencies and eliminate duplication of services. The Community Grantmaking Fund and the Clarke Endowment Fund accept applications for funding in the following categories: (1) Agency Support Application - For general operating support or existing programs/projects. (2) Technology Application - Funding is for the purchase of computers, computer-related technology, telephone systems, audiovisual systems, security systems, etc. (3) New Program/Project Application - Limited to new programs/projects with definite purposes covering a specified period of time. In 2007, the Foundation awarded nearly $5.4 million in grants to charitable organizations and scholarships for students.
