The Foundation has three funding cycles per year. Application deadlines are at 4:00pm on March 1, July 1 and November 1. You may submit a proposal for only one deadline within a 12-month period. For example, if you submit a proposal for the November 1 deadline and do not receive funding, you must wait until the following November 1 to submit another proposal. If you are awarded a grant, you may not submit another proposal until the same grant deadline the following year. Faxed or emailed applications will NOT be accepted.
The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation is the largest independent grantmaking foundation focused exclusively on the Washington Metropolitan area. The Foundation is the legacy of Morris Cafritz, one of Washington's leading commercial and residential real estate builders from the early 1920's to the mid-1960's. The Foundation has identified the following areas of interest: (1) Arts and Humanities: Support for Art Service organizations, arts education, museums, and the performing arts; (2) Community Services: support for efforts that address affordable housing, civic engagement, community development, environmental conservation, family and senior services, homelessness, immigrant services, leadership development, legal services, nonprofit management, workforce development, and youth service; (3) Education: Support for educational services and schools, teaching English as a second language, literacy and life skills, and scholarship programs; and (4) Health: Support for programs that address domestic violence and violence against women, health treatment centers and home health care, mental health, public health, substance abuse prevention and treatment, and HIV/AIDS prevention and education. The purpose and objectives of this program are very specific in nature. The distinct subject matter of this funding opportunity necessitates a thorough review of the official program guidance referenced at the URL provided in the contact section of this summary.
