Deadlines for submission of proposals are April 15, July 15, October 15, and December 15. Board meeting dates for request consideration: July, November, January, and April respectively. When deadlines fall on a weekend or holiday, the deadline will be the following working day. Today, Andersen Corporation is the world's largest manufacturer of windows, patio doors and storm doors. The mission of the foundation is to better people's lives and strengthen communities, focusing primarily where Andersen employees live and work. Focus areas are as follows: (1) Affordable Housing: Andersen Corporate Foundation supports organizations that provide affordable housing to low-income families. Supported in this focus area are projects providing sustainable housing that does not convert to market-rate housing; owner-occupied/rental homes, apartments and assisted living; and/or support services for emergency shelter and short term transitional housing. (2) Health and Safety: Andersen Corporate Foundation supports organizations that promote safe and healthy environments, as well as organizations that seek to improve health through prevention and education programs, primarily for young people, senior citizens, and people in vulnerable situations. Supported are prevention/outreach programs; programs and services that promote mental health, wellness, and safety; failities and equipment; emergency preparedness; recreational programs for people with special needs. Under this focus area, funding for general operating is preferred; however, project and capital grants are considered. (3) Education and Youth Development: Andersen Corporate Foundation supports organizations that offer intellectual and social opportunities, primarily for young people K-12. Supported are programs for public and private schools that are not funded in the general operating budget, and for which a responsible, independent group oversees allocation of the funds; programs that focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics; preservation of environmental quality; after school programs, drug prevention, and career planning. General operating preferred in this focus area; project and capital grants are considered. (4) Human Services: Andersen Corporate Foundation contributes to organizations that enhance self-sufficiency for people living in poverty, senior citizens, and people with disabilities. Funding supports organizations providing the basic needs of daily life, including food and transportation; skill development for people with disabilities and people living in poverty; services that help senior citizens maintain their independence; new immigrant services; and national organizations providing emergency recovery services for communities suffering from natural disasters. General operating support is preferred; project and capital grants are considered. (5) Civic Support: Andersen Corporate Foundation provides support that builds, promotes, and preserves communities. Funds support community assets such as public radio or public television, and museums, and cultural organizations (performing arts, visual arts, and music) that make a significant contribution to the life of the community. Capital, projects, and general operating expenses are preferred to be funded. Special consideration will be given to grant recipients in these situations: (1) Long-term presence: the community, or the surrounding area, is one where Andersen Corporation plans to have a long-term physical presence; (2) Employee concentration: there is a concentration of employees who live or work in the community that is served by the organization; (3) Active employees: Andersen employees are actively involved (sharing their time, talent, and/or financial contributions) with the organization applying for the grant; (4) Prevention: prevention programs are preferred.
