Since 1982, the Wisconsin Energy Foundation has contributed financial support for the activities of nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations in communities that are served by Wisconsin Energy Corp. and its subsidiaries. The foundation is funded by Wisconsin Energy shareholders. Their mission is to create brighter futures for the communities in which they do business, enhancing the growth and success of the company. The Foundation strives to achieve maximum community benefit and business value per dollar invested. The goals of the Foundation are: (1) To pursue a sustained, consistent approach to funding within the focus areas, better enabling the organizations to achieve lasting results; (2) To foster mutually beneficial relationships between Wisconsin Energy Corporation subsidiaries and community organizations; and (3) To fully leverage company resources. The Wisconsin Energy Corporation Foundation is funded through the shareholder portion of earnings and dividends. Grants do not affect the profitability of Wisconsin Energy Corporation nor do they impact customer rates for services. The Foundation has identified the following areas of interest: (1) Education: Nonprofit organizations that support recruiting needs for a diverse, promotable workforce; (2) Environment: Environmental education, resource preservation and conservation programs that help guide our communities toward an environmentally responsible future; (3) Basic Human Needs: Organizing local efforts to provide all people the chance to have a decent place to live, as well as clothing, food and utilities for their families, enabling those who are in need to obtain the resources they need to have a sustainable life; (4) Emergency Preparedness and Response: Partnerships with agencies that provide emergency response and disaster relief services; (5) Corporate Initiatives: nonprofit organizations that positively affect the growth and success of our business; (6) Employee Involvement: The Foundation will match active and retired employee gifts to any U.S. elementary, secondary and post-secondary school that is accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. The Foundation will also match gifts to local, nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula, provided they are recognized by the IRS as 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Personal contributions of at least $25 but no more than $20,000 total per calendar year per employee are matched; (7) Health and Human Services: support for the United Way; and (8) Arts: help provide quality entertainment, attract talented employees, educate Milwaukee's young people and bring economic dollars into Milwaukee by supporting the United Performing Arts Fund. The purpose and objectives of this program are very specific in nature.
