The test of the Emergency Alert System’s Emergency Action Notification Code on Wednesday went well despite a few glitches, Department of Homeland Security and FEMA officials told Alaska TV station KTUU. The alert was activated from the East Coast and relayed to the local KFQD radio station for rebroadcast to the rest of the stations in the state. Most of the TV stations broadcast the signal as expected, but the signal reset transmitters at some of the stations, while other stations broadcast the signal more than once or not at all.

A state homeland security official said the glitches were expected since a lot of the equipment has been in place since 1995, the same year the Emergency Action Notification Code was added to the system. This was the first test of the code, and the glitches are being looked into.
