FEMA announced the 2010 Citizen Corps Achievement Award winners. These awards recognize individual, community and state innovation in promoting neighborhood safety, disaster preparedness and resilience.

Here is the list of winners:

Outstanding State Citizen Corps Initiatives Award -- North Dakota Citizen Corps Council

Outstanding Citizen Corps Council Award (Serving a Population of more than 750,000) -- Fresno, Calif., Citizen Corps Council

Outstanding Citizen Corps Council Award (Serving a Population under 750,000) -- Washoe County, Nev., Citizen Homeland Security Council

Collaborative Preparedness Planning Award -- Citizen Corps Council of Pierce County, Wash.

Preparing the Public Award -- East Baton Rouge Parish, La., Citizen Corps Council

Preparing Community Organizations Award -- Cedar Park, Texas, Citizen Corps Council

Volunteer Integration Award -- District of Columbia Citizen Corps Council

Newcomer Award -- New Lenox, Ill., Citizen Corps

Outstanding Council Serving a Rural Area -- Citizen Corps Council of North Idaho

Individual Achievement Awards

  • David Ball - Riverside, Calif.
  • Timika Hoffman-Zoller - Chicago, Ill.
  • Mary Jean Erschen - Lodi, Wis.
