France’s government has set aside $1 million euros and is seeking aid from the European Union after winds as fast at 100 mph swept the country leaving 47 dead and hundreds injured. The storm originated in the Iberian peninsula before sweeping north and east across Europe through Germany and toward Denmark. In Portugal, the northern cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia issued flood warnings.
