The Norwalk, Calif., Sheriff’s Station was victim of a telephone hoax known as “SWATing” where a caller reports a phony crime, like a murder or bomb scare, and armed police must respond. The fake calls consume police and 911 call center manpower, and are a growing problem nationwide.
