Oil has stopped flowing into the Gulf of Mexico, Kent Wells, a senior vice president at BP, told The New York Times. The oil stopped flowing when engineers closed a choke line. The next step is to monitor the integrity of the well over the next 24 hours. Closing the well with the cap is considered a temporary measure according to Incident Commander Thad Allan. The relief wells currently being drilled are considered the permanent solution.
