Ninety-eight schools in 28 districts received a total of $28.8 million to become better prepared from the U.S. Department of Education’s Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools grant program. Prince William County Public Schools in Virginia plans to use the money for a variety of projects including an interoperable communications network for both the district and first responders, and developing a health hazards plan. The Hillsborough Township (N.J.) Board of Education plans to use its grant for staff safety training and school safety audits.
