A new version of a cyber-security bill being proposed by U.S. Sens. John Rockefeller and Olympia Snowe would give a Senate-confirmed national security adviser control over civilian and defense networks in the federal government. Among its provisions are a requirement of an inventory of infrastructure assets to determine which ones are critical, certification of cyber-security professionals and a requirement that the president work with industry to draw up plans governing the possibility of shutting down the Internet during an emergency, Reuters reported. A mark-up of the bill is scheduled for next week.
