See the announcement below from the Washington State Military Department on the selection of Robert Ezelle as the new Emergency Management Division Director. He succeeds Jim Mullen who retired on February 28th. He is the seventh Division Director in my 22 years of being associated with emergency management here in Washington State.
"Please join me in congratulating Mr. Robert L. Ezelle on his selection as the Director of the Washington Emergency Management Division, effective 1 April. I applaud Peter Antolin for his willingness to take on the role of Interim Director these past several weeks.
Robert has a strong record of leadership, efficiency and integrity. He is the right person to lead EMD, and to build partnerships with the emergency management community and the citizens of our state.
Robert arrived at the Western Air Defense Sector one month prior to 9/11 and helped navigate the unit through the crucial weeks and years that followed. Robert was the Vice-Commander of the Western Air Defense Sector when he retired at the rank of Colonel from the Washington Air National Guard in 2010.
Through a competitive process, Robert was selected as the Homeland Security Section Manager at EMD in 2010, and in May 2011 the E911 program was assigned to his section. His leadership and dedication to accountability within the program helped E911 emerge more efficient and focused. As the E911 manager, he led a staff of 21 employees responsible for managing statewide emergency telephone services (9-1-1), and oversaw homeland security and emergency preparedness grants management.
I look forward to the innovation, efficiency and new perspective that Robert will bring to the position. Thank you for supporting Robert Ezelle and our EMD colleagues as we work together to minimize the impact of emergencies and disasters on the people, property, environment, and economy of Washington State."
